Dhan Charts Update: Analyzing the Five New Technical Indicators

Zero Lag EMA v2, Squeeze Momentum Indicator, Premier Stochastic Oscillator, Premier RSI Oscillator, and Volume Candles are now live. Watchlist sorting, quick search, and VWAP enhancements round out the drop. Here is why none of those names should move your P&L.

What's actually shipped

Zero Lag EMA v2 is the "v2" I want to see the math on. The original ZLEMA removes lag by adding the price-vs-EMA differential back into the calculation. A versioned sequel typically means a tweaked smoothing constant, an added filter, or a different error-correction term. Without the source paper or the code, I treat it as a tuned variant, not a breakthrough. Same family, different constants, probably the same limitations.

Squeeze Momentum is John Carter's TTM Squeeze port. Bollinger Bands inside Keltner channels = compression detected; the momentum histogram below that = direction. Useful as a volatility regime filter, dangerous as a standalone signal. The histogram fires on almost every mean-reversion bounce, so your edge is in the regime flag, not the bars.

Premier Stochastic and Premier RSI are Ehlers' attacks on the classic RSI lag. They swap the standard smoothing kernel for an in-phase/quadrature decomposition. The promise: less lag. The trap: less smoothing, more noise. Ehlers' work is rigorous, but the difference between Premier and vanilla RSI in a 200-trade sample sits well inside the noise band.

Volume Candles aren't really an indicator — they're a rendering heuristic. High-volume bars get thicker, low-volume bars get thinner. Your eyes will read it as a signal. Your backtest won't.

What actually matters in the update

The non-indicator features are the real workflow win. Watchlist sorting and quick search cut seconds off every scan. The VWAP enhancements almost certainly mean better intraday session handling — session reset, anchored VWAP, maybe a deviation band. If you trade NSE or US equities on defined sessions, those are compounding gains on every click.

The filter I'd run before adding any of these

Are you bolting a new signal onto a system that already has a quantified edge, or are you slotting it in because the new-tool dopamine is real? I rate every indicator against my incumbent stack with a strict beat-the-spread hurdle. Worse Sharpe than what is already running gets benched. My standard: paper-trade two of these against your current signals for at least 80 trades before a single lot touches live capital. If the new tool can't outperform out-of-sample on a simple pre-registered hypothesis, it is decoration, not signal.

Five new toys, one real question. The math doesn't care how shiny the panel looks.

Incidentally, the only "indicator" I trust more every year is the one between my ears — and the routine that keeps it sharp. If you spend six hours staring at charts, the marginal return on a basic longevity protocol outweighs the marginal return on your seventh oscillator.
